My sister just booked the Hotel San Carlo (http://www.hotelsancarloroma.com
) near the Spanish Square after receiving numerous recommendations from various posters on this site.

I went to the website for the hotel and like it a lot, but I can't find any other postings recommending this hotel.

How long will you be there? I recommend you consider an apartment. I had one on Via Governo Vecchia which was the perfect location. I walked everywhere in Rome. Take a look at wwww.sleepinginitaly.com You can rent for less than a week through them.

Hi,
I'm one of the people who regularly recommends the San Carlo, and I've stayed there 4 times. You might want to try typing Hotel San Carlo into the search box on this forum, and it may bring up posts for you. It's also listed on this site under "Hotels" in Fodors "Rants & Raves". IMO, the location can't be beat, prices are reasonable, the hotel itself is very nice, although not a luxury hotel, and the folks who work there have always been kind and helpful.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

Actually, if you are looking at an apartment, it is www.sleepinitaly.com. I rented an apartment from them in November and it was a great experience, they are a good company to work with.
