Hi, we are travelling to Prague next Monday,8th December for 5 nights.
We are staying at Hotel Metamorphis suite 21 (in the old town) on recommendations I've seen on here and booked through Tomas at Travelcook.com, also a site found on here and thank you to everyone who has mentioned these two sites - they have both been wonderful to deal with.
They have both replied immediately to any questions by e-mail and been more than helpful.

Our trip is to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (and also to visit the Christmas Markets). My husband is treating me to the trip, but I spent so much time deciding on a hotel I haven't done my usual research on restaurants and time has flown and I would like to organise at least one nice meal to treat him to.

We don't like brightly-lit places. Candle-lit would be perfect and a log fire would be appreciated,but I have seen a thread on here lately saying that's hard to find in Prague!

Looking for either somewhere with a great view or a basement sort of place (not too formal or large though- more of an intimate sort of place that's relaxing).

We enjoyed Polish food and a lot of the menus we've seen for Prague look similiar,so would be happy with duck,goose,pork,beef and lamb etc and like dumplings and potatoes and meals served with apple sauce,red cabbage or saurkraut.We are not too fond of fish apart from salmon and smoked salmon.

We recently returned from Prague and loved U Modre Kachnicky in Mala Strana. Very elegant atmosphere, pianist, attentive service, small rooms, and we loved the food. They specialize in Czech cuisine, including duck and game, such as wild boar, goat, pheasant. Another poster recommended it which is why we went there. They have a restaurant in Old Town but we went to the one in Mala Strana. However, I remember reading a post from someone just last week who recently returned from Prague and he was disappointed in U Modre Kachnicky. Maybe they were having a bad night. It was definitely one of our favorites. I do remember other posters mentioning a restaurant called David's which we didn't have the time to try. U Modre Kachnicky has a website but I don't remember the address.

I know there is already a thread on here with some romantic restaurants listed, but a lot of it goes back several years, and restaurants change hands all the time so I was looking for info which is current so appreciate your answer.

Re restaurant U Modre Kachnicky, I know one is in the old town,and one in Mala Strana, but on looking at their website I'm not clear out of the two restaurants which one is in which area?

Angel - I ate at the U Modre Kachnicky in the Mala Strana and thought it average in comparison to a majority of my other meals in Prague. Prague Post recommends the one in Stare Mesto.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm looking forward to our trip on Monday any more, as we had to have our darling 17 year old Persian cat Portia, put to sleep earlier today

I would vote "yes" for U Modre Kachnicky, at least the one in old town (what I remember is old town is the side where the famous clock it, not the side where the castle is). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner there, in beautiful surrounding, paintings,antiques, candles at a most reasonably price (two years ago about $45 US for three course meal with wine for two) I got the address and telephone number from www.praguepost.com, an english language on line news website as Michalska 16, Prague 1-Old Town. Tel. 224 213 418. Other "must dos" are a concert, they advertise all over for $8 or so tickets, but it is great to hear classical music in some of the wonderful settings they have all aroung Prague, and the Jewish neighborhood with a walking tour from one of the guides that tout in the square near the clock for about $10, and ice cream on the street for pennies. Have a wonderful trip and happy anniversary (my husband and I are having our 20th soon too!).

Sorry to hear about your cat! If you are an overall animal lover, you will see some adorable dogs in Prague.

It is close to old town (across the river from Intercontinental Hotel). Have never dined there myself, but my close friend has, and loves it. At least go for a drink!

I agree the view from Hanavsky Pavilon over Prague is incredible - I had lunch on the patio there and it was okay - not sure how the views are from inside the restaurant.
