romantic/relaxing--lake como or amalfi coast? coast
Hi, we're a couple in our forties, plan to honeymoon in italy early july (first marriage for both--imagine!!). i've been to ravello/positano before, first trip to italy for him. we want to start out relaxing at beach/pool location before visiting rome/florence/venice. need to choose amlafi/lake como region in order to put itinerary together. i loved ravello and wouldn't mind returning, but have also heard that como is beautiful. we're not huge sun people, but want a lovely place to relax and explore. any advice on the regions, plus fabulous hotels, restaurants appreciated. <BR>

If your question is between lake como or the amalfi coast I would recommend the amalfi coast. While it is more of a hastle to get to, it is worth your while and is the perfect place to rest before visiting the big cities. Another plus is they cater to relaxing, but make sure you check our Capri, and Pompii. Have fun.

One of the most romantic places on Earth is Villa d'Este at Lake Como, but all that romanticism and great service comes at a steep price. (Just check out the website for the hotel to see how great it is.) I think you will be happy in either Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast, Diane, but be sure to consider Capri. It is HEAVEN! Gorgeous, great restaurants, all the best shops, etc. Relaxing and romantic. And there are lots of nice hotels in all price ranges. Have a great time!

Go to Amalfi and stay at the Hotel Santa Caterina. My husband and I went last June. Views are breathtaking, service is beyond wonderful. Swim in the sea (the most darkest blue water you have ever seen). We have traveled to lots of places. This one is the most memorable. I smile every time I think of it. Happy Honeymoon!

I love the Amalfi coast, but in July, I would choose Lake Como. I have been to Lugano, a few miles away, and it was beautiful. If you really want to stay at a fabulous place, Villa D'Este is the one. They offer all kinds of water sports, have a spa, etc. I haven't stayed there yet, but will be there in just a few weeks!! You can get a package deal for 3 days. Villa Serbelloni is in a better location on Lake Como and is also a 5* property.
