Romanitc Restaurant in Paris
My husband and I are visiting Paris for the first time in March. On the occasion of my 40th birthday we would like to make a reservation for dinner in a special restaurant. We have a budget of approximately 350 euros or 2300 ff for the entire dinner including wine and hopefully a little champagne as an apertif. We are looking for a romantic setting with good food and service, not necessarily a starred restaurant. Any suggestions?<BR><BR>

I think that Taillevent could be done on 350 euros if you are careful about the wine. Taillevent now has a website with menus which have prices. Check it out. We went last July and spent more but we went the whole route with the wines (I think my husband who chose the wines was thinking price is 'no object'). Also my husband had an '62 Armagnac which I am sure was very pricey. The dinner and the whole experience at Taillevent was wonderful. We dine out often but I have never had such a warm welcome from a restaurant we have never been to. Taillevent was an exception experience.

I also think that Taillevent could be done for 350E but you would really need to watch the wine price instead of just taking recommendations from Nicholas. <BR><BR>You can check out the menu and prices here:<BR><BR>http://www.taillevent.com/english/frameset.html?&restaurant/cadre.html&calc1&b_1_4&1&5<BR><BR>Wendy

We had dinner in the Spring of 2000 at Les Ambassadeurs. Although we wanted a great dining experience (and it was delivered), the ambiance was just as important to us. We were not disappointed in the least. The dining room is truly divine! I think you could do it under 350 Euros if you watch the wine. You may telephone the owner each morning and enquire whether the website menu and related information are current. And you should request he specify whether the figures he uses are dollars or euros, and whether the tax and service are included in the numbers provided. It is certainly clear that wines are not included. Have you considered trying a different 2 or 3-star? Perhaps a place less difficult to reserve at? Taillevent is great, but hardly the only top place in Paris. Gool luck. Ciao
