Hey bruce since your trip went so bad, bad enough that you feel the need to inform us all several times over, why don't you tell us what went wrong. You have a shoulder to cry on, somebody cares, you have all of our attention, so get it off your chest, big fella. you'll feel better.

doug, please ignore Bruce's biaised opinion. He must be the only person on earth who doesn't LOVE Barcelona. I honeymooned there myself 6 years ago and had an unforgettable time. And besides, I know plenty of people who hate Portugal, so his opinion is clearly not worth the attention. You'll have a wonderful time.

I enjoyed walking along Passeig Gracia looking at modernist architecture. An afternoon at Parc Guell is very nice. Barcelona has excellent food, go to a nice restaurant. Opera house is supposedly beautiful from the inside. I would stay in Eixample or Gracia neighborhoods, didn't really like the old city. Passeig de Gracia with it's wide boulevards reminds me of Paris.

Depending on the amount of time you'll be in the city, I'd recommend adding a 3-day+ roadtrip to your honeymoon. Rent a car and drive up the coast to Cadaques -- and if you like driving then take the coastal roads and not the highway, it's a fantastic ride up and down hills and valleys, views of the mediterranean, lots of places to stop for lunch.

You can make the trip to Cadaques in a day, and the food, atmosphere, everything is fantastic. It's also where Dali did a lot of his painting. Very, very romantic.

Hope this helps.

Barcelona is beautiful. My recommendation: go to the Fodor's restaurant recommendations for Barcelona, print them out, sit down with your finance and make choices , then when you get to Barcelona have the hotel desk make the reservations for you (don't expect to be able to walk in without a reservation - lunch or dinner) Also, be adventurous in your choices - I picked some restaurent that were outside of the "main hub" and they were terrific - just have the hotel and restaurant call you a cab to and back. The food is great - the dining elegant and nicely paced. Also - they eat late - 11 pm is not unusual. Barcelonians go out late and stay out late.
