You might want to try the Druid's Den, an Irish bar near Santa Maria Maggiore. They have a website too - www.druidspubrome.com. My friend and I hung out there a few times (a few years ago though) and found it a fun and comfortable place to talk to other people. I also suggest going into Trastevere, although I don't know of any bars in particular, but there are lots of under 30s hanging out there. In Trastevere I did go to a blues club called "Big Mama" it wasn't very happening, but it may have been a weeknight or maybe that band wasn't very popular. In any case, I tend to rely on Irish pubs or clubs with live mushc that I like whenever I travel and I usually luck out with that.

Hi Jess. The Travel Channel had a program on Rome that I saw a few weeks ago. One of the places they mentioned for nightlife was a bar called Jonathan's Angels, near Piazza Navona. It looked like a fun atmosphere and, from the clips, the crowd looked to be mainly under 30.

Also, I believe the Testaccio neighborhood is suppposed to have a number of clubs catering primarily to younger people.

Have fun!

By lounge, I mean less of a pub style. When I was in Barcelona, I found some small bars with interesting atmosphere(changing lights, jungle theme, couches)and that was the sort of place I was wondering about in Rome.
I am meeting up with a couple of friends who will be in Rome on their honeymoon. We are all New Yorkers, and while the guys won't mind pubs, I know the wife would love a chic surprise, with specialty mixed drinks and good lighting.
