Roman Dinning

Can anyone recommend a resturant with a good view in Rome for dinner? Or one with a great antipasti table ?

Larry--
Last summer I had a wonderful dinner at the La Terrazza restaurant atop the Hotel Eden, overlooking the city. Through the totally glassed side walls, you can watch the sun set over Rome and enjoy an excellent meal. The Eden is just a couple of blocks west of the Via Veneto. As for a good antipasti table, I can only remember a wonderful place on the Tiber somewhat north of Castel Sant'Angelo, with the most incredible layout of antipasti I had ever seen served outdoors under a vine-covered arbor. I am not sure of the name, but I believe it was La Paloma--if you know of the song by the same name, you would recognize the words (or sounds) from the song, which are written on the outside wall of the restaurant--"Cu cu ru cu" If you find it, a lunch there is worth the search.

My son's Italian teacher recommended Casina Valadier in the Pincio. She said it had a beautiful view overlooking the Villa Borghese and Rome. She also said it was also a nice spot for lunch or lemonade on a summer day but that is is a bit expensive. We never got there, but it sounds lovely.

Also recommended by the Italian teacher Ambasciata d'Abruzzo, via Pietro Tacchini in Parioli district. We did eat here. The food was excellent and and trays of food brought to the table with a terrific selection of antipasti. Their meal is priced fixed and included wine and liquores, and I don't remember it being too expensive. There were lots of locals here; very friendly atmosphere and their specialties are from Abruzzi region.

Have a great time.
Hi Larry. A guy from this forum had recommended a place called Alla Rampa, near the Spanish Steps, for it's extensive antipasto bar. We went there one night, last year, and really enjoyed it.

I looked it up in Google to find the address (Piazza Mignanelli 18), and discovered the website below, The Church of Santa Susanna, Home of the American Catholic Church in Rome. Under Alla Rampa it says "The restaurant has the most extensive antipasto bar in Rome, over one hundred different items."

While I don't recall THAT many items, it certainly had a lot and, as the website notes, one can make a main course out of it (as we did.)

Buono Appetito!

http://www.santasusanna.org/visitorInfo/whereDine.shtml

I love Le Grotte on one of those long parallel streets between the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. I do believe there were over a hundred items on that antipasta table and we had a wonderful lunch of just that as a major course followed by pasta and lots of wine. Great atmosphere too, and quite reasonable.
