roaming Prague...but for how long?

I would like to get to Prague this summer but I am quite a limited budget so my days are between 8-10. I love architecture, history, art and people watching. I thought if I split the trip into Budapest and Prague, it might feel rushed. I have been to Vienna so I would like to see something new. Other details: I am flying from Canada. I also would love a budget type hotel recommendation (you all have never steered me wrong).

Thanks

We are in Prague right now and love it!!! We have also been to Budapest. Depending what you want to see I think splitting a week between them would be lovely! It's easy to take the train between them.

As for budget, what amount do you want to spend? I'd start my search on www.booking.com

Happy planning!

Have been to Prague and Budapest in the same leg and both are wonderful!!

I agree with Jamikins..you can take the train its most convenient and picturesque

We were on a budget too..in Prague check out Adeba Hotel..a quaint little place..very practical and the breakfast is amazing

If you are going to Budapest recommend you to book a hotel apartment on the banks of Danube..the view is to die for and is the best location ever plus its not too pricey

Cheers

Hi Jamikins - didn't know you'd gone to Prague - you kept that quiet.

i hope you're finding lots of wine to drink [we tended to stick to the beer - have you tried the nettle beer yet?] and having a great time.

Dare I ask if there's a TR in the offing when you get back?

Hotel Kampa Garden is ideally located at the Charles bridge and costs about $110-115/night. We stayed there twice and liked it very much.

Loved Prague. My all time favorite destination!

I would suggest 5 nights in Prague with a day trip to Terezin, 1 night in Cesky Krumlov and the rest of your time in Budapest assuming you have at least 9 nights (you mention 8-10).

Enjoy!

What's a "budget hotel" in Loonies and cents?

This group has various offerings at numerous price points and they tend to be good: https://www.avehotels.cz/en/ Stay closer to Mala Strana or Stare Mesto than Hradcany. The last is the castle district and it's a long walk to the river and center of the city and the return trip is uphill.

You could easily do 5 nights in each and have a fine time while viewing a lot in each city.

Perfect! If you are into great food reservations at Le Degustation, Sansho and Dish are highly recommended!

Thanks.

I just looked at your photos Jamikins...wonderful! Are there really that many people? I am starting to wonder if August will be a problem with crowds.

On Charles Bridge - yes there were that many people...all day. And the short walk from Charles Bridge to Old Town Square down the pedestrian road was just as crowded. But one block over there was nobody. The tourist pedestrian road was covered in tacky souveneer shops and tourist restaurants so I don't feel like I missed anything by avoiding it. We walked down it after dinner when it was still busy but manageable. The crowds are easy to get away from by walking a couple blocks away from that main bit. Head to the castle very early (we skipped it) as it is super crowded as well.

We felt putting up with the crowds was worth it!

jamikins - our only visit to Prague was about 10 years ago between Christmas and N/Year - it was busy but not unbearable, and the atmosphere was great. I can;t remember walking across the charles Bridge being a particular problem but it was quite a long time ago.

I do remember it being pretty chilly though!
