Hello - my husband & I are going to France for the first time are trying to decide whether to go to France or the Riviera. We're going for 6 days. <BR>Also - what towns actually make up the "French riviera"?<BR><BR>Thanks for your help.

Paris

It depends on your interests and the season. I would opt for Paris with side trips to Versailles and Giverny when tired of the big city. The French Riviera extends from Toulon to Menton, with Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco as the better known locations.

Honnestly, I don't know how someone could advise you on this one. These are two completely different experiences.<BR><BR>Do you prefer large cities, museums and great monuments, or little towns or villages and scenery?

What is it that you want to do when you take this trip to France? <BR><BR>The French Riviera, also known as the Cote d'Azur, has many towns and cities but the largest & most well-known ones ones would be Cannes, St.Tropez, Nice, Monaco (a "city-state") and Menton.

Hi Jill,<BR><BR>In order to answer your question, it would help to know what sort of things you and your husband enjoy doing. If you enjoy a vacation in a big city with lots to do and see, then Paris is the place to go. However, if you are looking for a more relaxed vacation, taking in the beach and seeing to ocean, and several beautiful old coastal villages, then the Riviera is a good choice. The "Cote d'Azur" is basically from St. Tropez in the west all the way to Menton (including the Principality of Monaco) on the east. I would be happy to answer any additional questions you may have. IMO, you won't be disappointed with either choice. Also, I would suggest browsing the book store or library to get more information that may help you make an informed decision. Nice seems so to have a remarkable number of museums http://www.nice-coteazur.org/americain/<BR><BR>Can anyone comment on the quality of these? Obviously smaller and quality not in the league of Paris, but are they very worthwhile or just facades to give a veneer of culture?
