River trip to Ostia Antica or Rail?
Is it worth the extra time to take the Tiber River excursion to Ostia Antica instead of the railway? Is the route scenic enough to warrant the extra time? It's more expensive than the train, but neither is really expensive, so that's not really a factor.

Well the boat has got to be more scenic than the train .
Plus it will get you into the historic mood. The larger ships docked at the Ostia Antica seaport and the goods were loaded on barges and brought to Rome on the Tiber River. So you'll be following the ancient route.
I've been meaning to take the boat but I believe it only runs on weekends (& Fri.?) in the off-season when I have been there?
I would take the boat out and the train back to save time.
If you take the boat please write a trip report. I've read other posts over the years asking about it but I don't believe anyone ever wrote up a report on the journey (dock location, tickets, days & hours of operation, sites, etc.).
Have a Wonderful Trip! Regards, Walter

Yes, Walter, that's what I would like to do if the riverboat company will let us purchase a one-way ticket. If we go by the Tiber, I will let you know all about it. Thanks! leaving in the a.m.

We thought of taking the boat - the trip goes near bird breeding areas - but the return trip gives only about an hour at Ostia Antica - we spent over four hours there. So, we went by train, which was easy and comfortable. On balance, though, I would have preferred to go by boat, forget the return ticket, have as long as we wanted at Ostia Antica and return by train. I'll be interested to see what you choose.
