Rione Monti, Rome = Safety and proximity to tourist sites?

I stayed near here in the Via Frangipane ( Hotel Imperiali Fiori) during our "Rome " period when we visited four times in four years. This stay was two years ago and I was interested in staying in a different area each time. It was this forum which pointed me in the direction of Monti and just like you I looked at streetview and saw the graffiti.
We were directly between the Colosseo underground and Via Cavour.
We went past the park mentioned in daytime and there were undesirables but they didn't bother us.
I liked this area -it was less touristy than others I've stayed in and there were lots of restaurants.
I would stay here again.
