Burgos spain or Rioja? Looking for scenic town. Have 2 nights on the way from Madrid to San Sebastian. Torn between the 2. Also, is there any transportation in Rioja so I can sample a winery or 2. We have 3 kids so don't want to be driving over the limits. I heard Spain very strict on that. Was thinking of Haro?

Burgos is in the Ribera del Duero, with some great wineries close by. Haro and Laguardia are better situated, and more in line, for wine touring for someone who doesn't want to drive (http://tinyurl.com/kp3n6t4).
Regardless of where you choose to stay, you will need to make reservations at any of the bodegas you'd like to visit. None are open to walk-ins.

I´m a local guide, so yes, I´m quite familiar with the area. Burgos is really nice, with one of the best cathedrals in Europe. It´s Ribera del Duero wine D.O., quite differente from Rioja wines. My family is from near Haro, a nice town but nothing too special about it. Laguardia would be the logical option, with many wineries around it...hundreds, I´d say. Difficult choice, it really depends if you like the big ones or the more familiar ones.

One error written above Burgos is located in the wine area (DO) of Arlanza, Ribera del Duero is located much further south.
