Review of the Jhieronimus Bosch ehibition

I had an unexpected brush with dutch art this week at the Courtauld Institute which I visited for the first time despite having walked past it probably hundreds of times en route to what used to be a Family court in Somerset House on the Strand.
with 2 or so hours to fill before we needed to get our flight home to Cornwall, we enjoyed the permanent exhibition very much, especially their collection of impressionists [including Manet's Bar at the Folie Bergere which I first saw at the Grand Palais Manet exhibition over 30 years ago].

In addition they have two Breughel exhibitions on at the moment, "Breughel/not Breughel" and "Breughel in black and White" as well as another of Botticelli's drawings of Dante's divine comedy, which of course has at least partly a theme of Paradise, though some of the themes were pretty gory. The detail is fantastic but difficult to see with the naked eye so they provide magnifying glasses which helped a bit.

Yes, I read the exhibit was sold out a few weeks ago - even after they extended their hours until 11pm!
I just ordered the exhibit catalog, Bosch: Visions of Genius, from amazon. I found the book, Bosch in Detail, in a bookstore in Den Bosch for only 30 Euro. That will be $65 here when the book is released in the US (in October), and I wanted to buy it, as it would have saved me money. But, I didn't want to lug it around with me - it's a huge book. So I will continue to eagerly anticipate its US release.
