Rome: Il Ciak-- Vicolo del Cinque 21 (in Trastevere) Closed Monday open 20:00-24:00 all other days. You must have a reservation--call 06/589-4774. Truly authentic and amazing food. Lots of fresh game. Best veal chop I've ever had. Heavenly grilled bread-fabulous funghi zuppe. I have eaten there 5-6 times and it is always just outstanding. True local flavor-you won't find another tourist in the room. I wish I was there right now....

Check out my trip report "Florence & Venice trip report" from 3/04 for details on restaurants in these two cities. Sorry I can't give you the actual thread, as I don't know how to access its specific address, but you should be able to find my trip report by query of my screen name, elsiejune.

Rome: Ristorante d'Arancia, about a block from Trevi Fountain. It's listed in Frommers.
