Restaurants in Trier, Germany

I'm going to be on a two-week business trip to Germany. Leaving in three weeks. Staying one night in Trier. We probably won't get there til about 1900 or so. Looking for a good to great place to eat. Greek maybe?

Any suggestions from people who've been there recently?

Thanks

A Greek restaurant in Trier that I can recommend is the Hermes at 54 Weberbach Strasse, Tel 0651-44450.

We ate at Zom Domstein Weinstube back in March and I can easily recommend it. But it's German, not Greek. It is on the main square.

Thanks Kelly - I'm pretty sure that's where we ate last year. I had an amazing pork something with that yummy purple cabbage..

Stayed two nights in Trier April 2004. One night's supper was at the restaurant in the Hotel Romischer Kaiser. Lovely service - nice multilingual waitress, and the kitchen sent out little tastes of local cheeses and cured meats. I tried one of the lesser-known local red wines and found it very comparable to the best California Zinfandels. Second night, dinner at Zum Domstein - liked this one too. Tried one of their 3-glass Riesling flights, which ranged from sweet to dry. I believe the downstairs level at Zum Domstein contains a related but separate restaurant which claims to have a ancient Roman style menu.

I was there about 4 weeks ago and a friend from Germany recommeded a restaurant in a suburb - but I cannot remember the name, but I have it at home. Beautiful restaurant on a residential street. It was cuisine, more than just food. Lovely white asparagus, fresh seafood and rabbit. They also had an extensive wine list - German and French. I would highly recommend and I will get the name and post it tomorrow.

TorontoSteven - appreciate the offer, but we won't have time enough to 'wander', let alone get to a suburb. We get into town around 7pm, and our hotel is practically on top of Porta Nigra. We'll have worked all day, driven over an hour, and will still have work to do. It will be a quick stroll into town, leisurely dinner, an ice cream and a walk back to the hotel. Then we're on the road at 630am. Thanks, though.
