restaurants in london

going with my parents to london in mid-october, and would like to get a few recommendations for fun restaurants that aren't too expensive. we'll be in the theatre district one evening, but are open to all ideas in central london. also interested in good ethnic restaurants with good ambience.

Bank is a trendy, moderately-priced, restaurant--huge, noisy, fun, a big menu and right in the theatre district. Its decor is special, as it indeed was a former bank.

Hi Jim;

The restaurants that we really enjoyed are: Soho Soho (in Soho of course). The upstairs is a pricier version, the street level is a brasserie. We ate in the brasseris. Absolutely delicious food!!

In Bloomsbury, the Chambeli (Indian food), also very good food, but unfortunately when we were there we weren't that hungry so couldn't fully enjoy it. Lots of leftovers, but we were leaving the next day so couldn't do doggie-bags!

The Salisbury pub in Leister Square (or Covent Gardens??) - had excellent fish and chips.

For more detailed food info, check our website at: www.davidandcarol.com - our trip journal is there and it's got all the info about where we ate in London (just click on the days for London).

A website that I really like for restaurants is: www.top-restaurants.com. They have info on France and England.

Have a great trip!

Carol

P.S. Some months ago you faxed me the brochure from the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles in Paris, but I finally found a website for them. I think that's where you said you were staying - probably this trip. It looks wonderful - I'm sure that's where we'll stay when we're in Paris next May.
For Indian Drummond Street just west of Euston Station or Brick Lane, just north of Aldgate East station. For Chinese Chinatown south of Shaftesbury Avenue and north of Leicester Square, where prices vary greatly. For Lebanese the Cafe Sofra in Shepherd's Market north of Green Park tube station.

For English lunches on weedays the Two Chairmen just north west of St James Park station or the Devereaux Arms pub beside the westernmost gate of the Inns of Court south of the Law Courts on the Strand.

For English meals any time the Founders Arms, at the southern end of Blackfriars Bridge.

Welcome to London

Ben Haines, in Ramnicu Valcea

devereaupub nearest the wester
