Restaurants in Florence/Rome

Just wanted to get some input from the experts on this board regarding must dine restarants in Florence and Rome. Not too concerned about price since we usually travel with the understanding that we would splurge on meals!

Hi nk,

We very much liked Il Ritrovo
Via de’ Pucci 4/A 055.281688
Best food for the price Has fish. Full dinner w/wine abt 40E pp Closed Monday
From Pzza San Giovani (NW corner of the Pza del Duomo) walk one blk East to Via dei Martelli. Go left to Via dei Pucci. Turn Right. Look very carefully on left. No sign. Door could be locked. Ring bell.

In Rome, Antonio al Pantheon (via dei astinei 12)(phone #06/67.90.7980) is fantastic. Homemade pastas, fresh buffalo mozerella, artichoke brusetta to die for. It's a small restaurant, not fancy, but the food is amazing.

In florence:
Trattoria 4 Leoni
website: www.4leoni.com

You must try:
Fiocchetti di pere con salsa di taleggio e asparagi

I have recommended this to many friends and most have said the best, if not one of the best meals in all of Italy...
very reasonable (quite inexpensive)

Le Mossace, Via del Proconsolo 55/r, Phone: 055/294361. I know price isn't an issue, but this is downright cheap. Food was good though, but was more just the fun atmosphere. Communal seating so we met so many wonderful Italians and other tourists sharing the same table. No fuss though and cramped.

My favorite is: Il Cantinone, Via San Spirito, 6R
Tel:055-225-955: In the Oltrarno, downstairs from the street. This was recommended to me here. It is really Il Cantinone della Gallo Nero (or something similar). Not easy to find, and once you do you won't be sure until you are seated, but worth it. Again, not expensive, but I have never felt so "welcome". I went back twice. Good food. Better atmosphere in an old wine cellar.
