It's for my mom and Aunt, yes per person is fine. Want good italian food, trying to avoid the tourist traps, staying near the Dumo in Florence, in the town of Sorrento, and cannaregio in Vencie and near Vatican in ROme.
Thanks

My two ‘not to be missed’ include:
Venice:
Tavernetta San Maurizio (San Marco 2619 – phone 041 5285240)
Florence:
Leo’s (Via Torta 7R – www.florencerestaurant.com open for lunch and dinner – closed Mondays – phone 055 210829).
There were menu items within your budget limits.
Enjoy!

Hi Tiff - I was afraid someone would catch me here and ask about my trip report
It will be coming soon! I started typing it up with links and stuff. Better late than never I guess!
We had and ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, AMAZINING AND FANTASITIC TIME! And yes, I did have to scream it

In Venice: Osteria da Carla - at Sotoportgo and Corte Contarina - near St. Marks. Rick Steves' book gives good directions; he calls it a "hole in the wall" but we found it tasty and pretty trendy.
Also, Piccolo Martini at Via Sambughe (you pass it on the Rick Steves St. Marks to Grand Canal walking tour) was pretty good for lunch; it's inexpensive and "tourist friendly" in that we were able to grab lunch at about 3 pm. The pasta was decent, but what we remember is my husband's side of roasted zucchini and egg plant. I've tried to reproduce it at home, but it just gets soggy.

Thanks for the tips, missy - my DF and her family with whom i am travelling to Venice in about a month are going to be looking for restaurants that serve meals at strange times, as the rehearsals for the concert we are in are at strange times too!

I second Osteria da Carla in Venice - we had a good lunch there.
In Florence, we liked Il Sasso di Dante, near the Duomo. For a quick and cheap lunch, we liked I Fratellini.
In Rome, try L'Orso 80 (antipasti only), Armando al Pantheon, Il Baccaro (may be a little over your budget but not if you just stick to the primi), and Trattoria del Pallaro.

Ristorante Alla Madonna near the Rialto Bridge (on the Dorsoduro side) was reasonable, fun, and very high quality. And the prices weren't bad. Their web page is:

annhig, I don't know what your agenda is, but don't count on a lot of restaurants being open late at night in Venice. In Rome, we got used to being able to nap after a day of touring and then have dinner at 9 or 10 pm. In Venice we went to a Vivaldi concert; I ASSURED the kids there would be plenty of places open for dinner when the concert was over (maybe 10:15) and I was so wrong. We ended up with badly warmed over pizza. Don't get me wrong - there ARE places that are open late; just get a recommendation from your hotel, because there aren't all that many of them.

In Venice, Alle Testiere; in Florence, La Giostra; in Rome, Tullio, Nino's,
La Piazzetta; in Sorrento Il Buco.
Just looked at your price range - these may be a bit above. Had good pizza at Da Baffetto in Rome - very economical at about 20 euros total for the two of us.

We thought Da Buffetto in Rome was good, too. There is a second one (Buffetto Due?) just off the Campo dei Fiori. We had heard that the pizzas are so thin that you need to order a whole one for each person. We did that and it was way too much food (esp. if you want the tartuffo (sp?) for dessert). The only one of us who finished her/her pizza was our 15 year old son.
