Reservations for St. Mark's Basilica in Venice

Someone mentioned that it would be wise to make reservations to tour St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. There was a website posted (alata.it), but I can't ever get it to work. Is there another way to reserve a time/tickets for St. Mark's? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps times have changed but when I was there in Sept. 1990 you just walked into St. Mark's. Certainly no cost was involved except if you cared to make a donation. I would also like to hear about tickets.

I made reservations through the website last summer. It was down several times, but I just kept trying and finally it worked. I'm sorry I don't know any other way. It was worth the effort as we were able to bypass a long line. Good luck!

Just an update for anyone else trying to do this - I never could get the booking page to work for me. So I just used the Contact Us link and sent then a message telling them when I wanted reservations. I got an email with a reservation confirmation attached the next morning.

Jun04ItalyHoneymoon, do you happen to have that e-mail address where you made the reservation? I could never get the site to work either, always thought it was too early. I leave for Europe next month.

It seems that someone has hacked into the site... Beware of the virus!

I just walked in to St. Mark's in March, 2004. Never saw a line of more than a few people in the five days we were there. Seems like we were lucky, or it was just the time of year.

There is a cost to see part of the basilica, but not all of it.

I was there about a month ago, late May and I never went in because of lines that looked to be over an hour. It closed early or I would have used my trick of going later in the afternoon.

I was also there in late March, and there was definately a line. It looked like it would take about 20-30 minutes to get in.
