Renting a driver for a day on Amalfi coast.

We thought we'd rent a driver for a day to take us on the Amalfi Coast. Our B&B host said it is very expensive. Any suggestions?

We used this company for a transfer from Naples and would recommend them. No idea what they charge for days out

Where are you leaving from? Where do you want to go, specifically? How many people?

We used Giovanni, the owner of www.tourofitaly.com for a day visiting the Amalfi Coast from a cruise ship and were very satisfied.

IIRC, the cost was 300 Euro, but there were 6 of us, so 50 Euro pp seemed quite reasonable--and much less expensive than anything the cruise ship offered.

We are staying in Positano, and want to have a driver take us on the Amalfi Coast for one day. Some friends of ours said they did this years ago, and it was great. They were able to stop at the little towns if they wanted to, and of course were able to stop and eat along the way. We'd like something like that. Our B&B said it is very expensive. Any suggestions?

What do you consider very expensive? How much are you willing to spend?

Obviously if you get a car and driver (and do you mean just a cab driver or also a guide who will tell you about the sights?) it will cost several hundred euros.

Depending on how many hours the tour takes, and whether you just want transportation or a qualified guide, I would expect it to cost between 300 and 500 euros.

Years ago Italy's currency with respect to other world currencies was very weak, which made everything seem affordable here.

We used Guemar Travel, based in Sorrento for a few trips this last visit and would highly recommend them. There's info about the company at: www.guemartravel.com

And yes, a half day cost us 275E, so a full day could easily be just over 500E.

Our B&B host said we can rent a car with driver for 5 hours on Amalfi Coast for $250. From what it sounds like, this is a really good deal. I've sent an email to our B&B host to ask more questions regarding the tour. Thanks for the suggestions.

We just arranged for a tour using:

http://www.francescomarrapese.com/

He has gotten very good write ups on here and Tripadvisor and several people have recommended him here as well.

It is 50 euros an hour, 5 hours minimum. We are going in early April, will provide feedback if your trip is after that date.

I also looked at tourofitaly.com which was 250 euros for approx. 8 hours. I read a few reviews that weren't as good, so went with Francesco.

DebitNM--

I got that quote also from a tour company, but when you figure how much 250 euros are, that's really expensive. About 350 dollars. The one I found thru our B&B is 239 dollars for 5 hours. But again, don't know how good he'll be. Our B&B is highly recommended, so hopefully the tour guide is also.
Thanks for the info, and yes, let me know how your trip went when you get back.

Barb,

I will be staying in Positano for my wedding in Sept 2014, I am interested in knowing about your tour guide if you enjoy it. Which B&B are you staying at?

THANK YOU, Ciao- Danielle

I would double check with your B&B that the price is 239 dollars. It would be very odd for an Italian driver to quote a price in dollars instead of euros.

I think bblount converted to get $239, which is approximately 175 euros. That is very cheap. VERY. Makes me question as to why it's so low. Sorry, that's just my suspicious nature...

B&B host quoted 35 euros an hour for five hours, that calculates to $239.00. Waiting for response from him to make sure that is correct and if that is a guide not just a driver. Will post when I get response.

B&B is B&B Venus Inn Residence. Highly recommended. We will see.

It was 250 euros for the day.

I will second Guemar Travel. Have used them a few times. They are competent professional, and genuinely nice people.
