Alonso,
Glad to hear it. Hope we'll get some good resolution too, but for now (nearly 4 months after the fact), we're still fighting with Hertz.

I'll post how things finally get resolves, but sure am glad American Express has been supportive.

You have just learned a lesson in car rental the very hard way. Always, that is always, return the car with a full tank of gas. Even when renting in the US the rental car companies charge up to $6.00 a gallon when the car is returned with less than a full tank.

I've never had a problem with Hertz, but Avis... The car we rented from them last year at Athens Airport had brake failure. We hit the back of a bus and suffered broken ribs. My daughter spent 3 days in hospital. Avis messed us about, had the car checked out and promised not to charge us anything. they honoured this for two months - until i left Greece and was unable to take any legal action.
Eventually, we claimed the costs back from our insurance but felt that as Avis was at fault that they should not have charged us.
It took a further 6 months for Avis to sort out the necessary paperwork. Avis in the US claimed to have nothing to do with Avis Greece although when pushed they helped a little.
We were charged about $6,000 for damage and rental for a car that could have killed us.
Carolina
