Rent Car in Siena
My husband and I will be traveling to Italy (Rome, Tuscany Area, Venice) the last 2 weeks of September. We plan to fly into Rome and spend 3-4 days, take a train to Siena and stay another 2-3 days, then take a train to Venice for another 3-4 days. When in Siena, is there a car rental office nearby so we can rent a car to drive through the countryside and/or possibly take some day trips? Another question is what train do we take from Rome-Siena and Siena-Venice? We will have luggage.
Thanks! Renee

It is better to train to Chiusi to get the car---the Siena train connects there. Autoeurope has an office at the train station--very easy. See www.trenitalia.com for train schedules, but your Venice leg will connect via Florence. Good luck--sounds like fun.

Slight correction...AutoEurope only has an office in Portland Maine. They are a broker, and can reserve you a car with Avis, which has an office at the Chiusi train station.

While I agree the Chiusi rental car location is better for those taking the train, we did rent from Avis in Siena. We ate lunch in Siena and walked to the rental car office - it's not within walking distance of the train station though.

I'm leaning toward the idea of renting the car when leaving Rome and dropping it off once we enter Venice. Might be a bit easier since we'll have a big pieces of luggage to carry around (we're not as young as we use to be!). Thanks to everyone for your great advice.

I agree about renting in Chiusi; the place Autoeurope rents from in Siena (Europcar, Avis, I forget which) was not easy for us to find. On the other hand, we have a history of difficulty picking up/returning cars in Europe!
