Hi, gb
Yes, a good experience. Picked it up in A'dam, left it in Barcelona 6 weeks later. Cost much lower than any competitive major company rate, plus we got a larger size than we would have booked otherwise (a Laguna, nice car.) It was new and very comfortable, worked well. Nice people at the delivery and dropoff points.

I've used them twice for approx. 30 days and everything worked out perfectly. The last 6 years though, I've preferred to rent instead even when rental was a bit more expensive.
In Italy and Spain, car trunk break in is much more likely in a "leased" car because of their stupid redish license plates ... they tell everybody you're a tourist with a trunk full of goodies (once rental cars use normal license plates, it's impossible to identify one).
If you end up leasing instead of renting, make sure you leave your trunk empty when parking. If you stop to visit a site along the route, be sure to park your car in a very visible spot. During my visits to Europe, I met 3 travellers that had the car broken into in Barcelona, a couple in Italy and one in France. All had leased cars.
Paulo

No, rental cars have normal plates. Of course, you may, say, be in Spain with a car rented in Germany ... but nobody will know whether you're a tourist or somebody there on a business trip.
To discourage trunk break in it's important not to leave anything visible in the car that may hint you're a tourist (maps, snacks, etc.). Whenever possible, park your car in a very visible spot. If there's a car with those redish licence plates in the parking lot, just park beside it ... if there are thieves, they will go for the red license plates for sure
You shouldn't "clean" your car upon arrival ... do it before you get to your parking destination. I usually also "dump" my family off the car before I go about finding a parking place.
Paulo
