Regarding the mothers' sayings thread

Would anybody mind if I used excerpts from the wonderful "Our mothers were right" thread in a newspaper column?

No, go right ahead, so long as you say where you got the ideas.

Only if somehow we can read this
article afterwards!
Are you Guy who was the writer of those bodice ripper threads before a trip to France?
If so, where is Magdalena and did you have a good trip?

Yes, it is I, guy.

The trip to France was fantastic. I posted my raves here and in a newspaper column on March 15. (BTW, the column can be found by visiting suffolktimes.com, going to back issues, selecting March 15, and selecting the column entitled "Two decades later, France" by the staggeringly handsome Jeff Miller. If you do, you'll notice that I did credit all of you wonderful Fodorites for helping to make my trip a success.)

This next column would be little Mother's Day thang. And yes, I would credit this most excellent forum. And I wouldn't include any names or e-mail addresses.

And to Nancy, who I believe was the biggest fan of my bodice-rippers, Magdalena is currently resting before her next adventures. You'll read them here first.

Gosh! How did I miss the Bodice Ripper's Thread???? Sounds intriquing!

As far as using anything I personally mentioned in the "mom" thread, feel free to, although there are tons of good ones in there! And yes, let us read what comes of your article!

Have fun!

Guy, Guy, Guy...*I* am your biggest fan...you just broke my heart by saying that (sniff) Nancy is your most ardent supporter.
I have been waiting for you to return.
Gigi, aka Magdalena

Guy aka Jeff,
Please go ahead. I enjoyed your column very much (and I have a nearly-'attractive, mysterious stranger in the back seat' in my life, too; he's still speaking to me but just barely). You were quite gracious in describing Fodor's!
Pam

Of, course, Gigi. How ungracious of me. I can feel Lena's febrile stirrings already.

Guy, Don't be hurt, but I think gigi is correct.
While I enjoy your writing style and the suspense of your stories, bodice rippers are not my first choice in reading material.
Glad your trip went well.
I will look up that site.
I am curious!
And glad to hear that Magdelena was not abducted , or experienced any similar events.

Sharon M,
I am not sure but I think "Guy's" posts were this past February??(could be wrong)
Maybe you were on vacation?
They were definitely amusing and good for the long winter months up here in the north.

If anyone is interested, I had more luck finding Jeff/Guy's article by going to the site and clicking on columns.
wasn't able to bring it up by going to "back issues"

Guy,
I hope they made you take one of those hotdogs for breakfast.
Gack!

Thanks Guy I think you have this site described to a "t". I found it by going to the date, then clicking on columns.

Guy/Jeff, funny stuff especially about the strangers in the back, who are very attractive! I really like the breakfast story, it sounds eerily similar to my husband's foray into French cuisine,,,I can't understand why either! Let us know when the column is printed. Judy

Jeff/Guy, loved your column, especially the Fodors description, and I'm sure my husband will too since he is often aghast at some of the posts. We'll make it a point to check in weekly. Don't throw out those white tennis shoes, and take care of those mysterious strangers.

How did you get lucky enough to work for the Suffolk Times? (Lucky, as in being able to live in that part of the Lon Guyland, and as in people paying you to write.)

Anyway, I think the only requirement should be that you tell us when the column will appear. Even though I don't necessarily think posting here is a critical part of asserting an American's First Amendment rights, I do think we have to assume that it's not a private or copyrighted communication.

30.

Funny column, Jeff. Too short (although your editor may disagree with my learned opinion.
BTW, did a search for "bodice rippers". My computer sat there like a big grey lump for endless minutes and finally, only the mother's thread popped up. Fodor's very efficient search engine does it again!

If anyone else is more successful, please top it. I missed that one.

Lisa,
I found it!
I found it!
But even though I posted to it twice, and those posts have been added to the original,
the site will not bring it up for current postings.
It may appear soon.
I did search under Guy, and scrolled back to somewhere in February
It is titled,
Are Italians The Best Lovers?
Magdelena enters about 15-20 posts down, and the story continues from there.
(

You're doing better than I am, Lisa!
I got into suffolktimes.com site, went to "back issues", selected March 15, and saw NOTHING entitled "Two decades later, France" (by the staggeringly handsome Jeff Miller).

I, too, did a Fodor's search (as "ohoh" so sweetly suggested...) for "bodice rippers" AND "bodice" and got the same response you did!

Do I feel like imbecile, or what?
