Regarding currency in Switzerland

Do I need to change my Euros into CHF in advance or Euros are easily acceptable in shops, ticket counters, hotels, etc. in Switzerland. I know I might suffer loss due to exchange rate.

Hi Motumotu,

Yes, the currency of Switzerland is the Franc. If a store or restaurant accepts Euro, they are doing you a service (doing the currency exchange for you), and you will pay for it accordingly. You will also get your change in chf.

It takes about 30 seconds to stop at an ATM.

Why would you insist on using the wrong currency and taking a huge loss versus just pulling some cash from the nearest ATM?

Hi M,

If you do a little reading up on your own, you will be able to avoid asking very basic questions and having people be less than kind in their responses.

Do you know how to use the search function?

Best to change into Francs. There are plenty of ATM machines in the area.

However, if you still don't want to make the exchange, you can always just use your credit card. Depends on the size purchase you are making (large hotel bill, train passes, etc.) But for smaller purchases, definitely Francs.

Happy travels!
