Recommendations for Italian Language Tapes

Can you recommend something that you have tried and found successful.
Just want to be able to speak phase needed to travel in Italy. Growing up in an Italian family I know the curse words but want to be able to speak the language.

I had good success with the "Get by in Italian" book/ tape set. Sorry, can't remember who it's from, but it was at Barnes and Nobles travel section.
I very much liked "Language 30"
Italian tapes--I learned a lot of the basics.
I did not like the Berlitz tapes--I found them too complex and hard to follow.
I like "Express Track to Italian" (Barron's - $35.00 in l995) It has good speakers and focuses on basic grammar and phrases tourists need.

I liked "Just Listen 'n Learn Italian" a lot, even though they can't spell "and." They use native, Italian speakers. Have you checked your local library? They often have language tapes you can check out, so you can decide which set you like most before you buy.

Looked up the "getting by in Italian" authors for you--they are Barron's so my guess is that and the "Express track to Italian" are actually the same. It focuses on common phrases and was invaluable!
