My suggestion is the town of Dieulefit, in the Drôme Provençal. It's a charming small town mostly known to the French, and in a very picturesque area. Another possibility a bit farther south: Bedoin. Good for cycling and the market.

This is wonderful information, I really appreciate all of the ideas and recommendations! FrenchM, loved the links too. I think I'm now torn between the Brittany area, Carcassonne and Annecy.

hetismij2, I was thinking France, but if you have suggestions for Netherlands or Belgium, I would love to hear about it. I'm from Canada, but my family tree on my dad's side of the family traces back to Rotterdam. I have been to Holland once, but would like to go back someday.

Thanks wunderbar2. I'm glad you enjoyed my reports and I hope you enjoy Brittany as much as I do. Just to add a little something different if you do go to Brittany and happen to be in the vicinity I recommend you look at these links and check these places out. I am definitely making visits to these two sites on my next trip to Brittany:

If you have any other questions I'll see if I can answer them and I'm sure others can help as well.

toontown - No matter what you decide I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

In addition to Bilbo's suggestions you could consider Naarden, Deventer, Kampen, Harlingen, Enkhuizen or larger places like Amersfoort, Apeldoorn, Breda or Zwolle.
