Well, here's my thing. We are staying on London for three days in Mayfair, then we are taking the chunnel to Paris. We have to return back to London because it was cheaper to fly out of there. We will have one more day in London when we return. It is a Sat. and I wanted to go to the market in NOtting Hill. Our flight leaves really early like 7:30 am the next morning. I just want something doable. Should we then stay in Notting Hill? Should we stay near the London Waterloo station? We will have our bags when we chunnel back from Paris which will be Sat. morning. Then we fly out Sun. morning. I emailed a hotel in Notting Hill about taking a taxi to the airport from the hotel. They said it would be 40 pounds. There had to be a cheaper way. So anyway, what would be the best area to stay in when we return from the Waterloo station and spend the day in Notting Hill that would be not too terribly far from Heathrow? I hope I didn't confuse anyone. Thanks

No reason to take a taxi to the airport. A car service will cost less - the tube doesn't start early enough. The first Heathrow Express train leaves at 0510 so that would be a good choice. There are a TON of budget hotels w/i walking distance from Paddington station/the Hex.
What time do you arrive on the Eurostar? The thing about Portobello Rd is that one really should get there EARLY - like 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and be out of there by about 10:00 a.m.. By then it is extremely crowded and difficult to see anything or even walk through.
W/ a 0730 flight you would need to be at the airport by about 0530 - luckily there will be no traffic at that time of day but it still means being on the way by 0445 if you get a car service or 0510 if you take the HEX.
If you do take a car service, it really doesn't make that much difference which part of town you stay since a car service will cost about the same from any part of town. If you take the HEX, I'd stay right next to Paddington station.

I have used Just Airports, which I originally got from another Fodorite, and living in London now I have used several times and find the drivers punctual and pleasant, the cars clean and new and the price right, for me 21 pounds out to Heathrow and 27 pounds back, I would think you would be about the same, the price depends on your exact location in London. see www.justairports.com
