****REALLY HOT????****

Will be in Burgundy, Loire and Normandy in August 6-22. Will it be REALLY HOT that night accommodations MUST have air-conditioning (or have coolness from stone that the place may be made from)?
Thanks for any advise.

Was in the same area, same time, about three years ago.

Normandy was fine, even cool.Should have stayed there... The Loire and Burgundy were incredibly HOT and HUMID. Extremely uncomfortable...would never go again at that time of year.

Michele, thanks for insightful weather info. Before kids my husband and I always traveled in late Sept. to Oct. or in May. Now, it's a whole different ballgame. I live on Long Island, NY and am used to hot and very humid weather. I really wish I can travel in better weather. However,I posed this question because one place we tentatively have near Blois (Loire)has no air-conditioning. I've posted another question asking for more hotel suggestions in this area! Thanks so much for your advice! -Deb

I've never lived in NY but have been there several times, including summer, and I can tell you that the heat and humidity there has nothing to do with what we little moderate Europeans have to put up with. Especially in rural, quiet areas, where it is possible to open the window, air conditionning is not really necessary. Even in my apartment in Paris with four French windows full South, I would only need it 10 days a year. It is true though that among the areas you'll be visiting, Burgundy would be the hottest (even though it depends which part : the Morvan or Yonne hills are quite cool).

Debbie,

I agree with Michele. I am from the NYC area also and living with heat and humidity is a different experience from traveling in it. Parts of France in August are extremely hot and humid. Look for AC. Opening a window in humidity ( as you know) does little to nothing.
