I just found this site. It's already answered many of my questions.
My daughter and I are traveling from California to North Wales in mid-June and hope to stay in Conwy for a couple of nights. Does anyone have a b&b to recommend in Conwy? Thank you very much.
We also want to visit Porthmadog. Anyone ever been there?
And my 16 year old daughter is intrigued by the name "Fairy Glen." Does anyone know what Fairy Glen is, exactly, as the guidebooks don't elaborate. Thank you!!

janeausten - can't help you but if you start a new thread with appropriate title and ask this question you are sure to get lots of suggestions.

Welcome and good luck.

i live in UK and would never attempt such a driving feat (unless forced to for work). i would choose wales or york/yorkshire dales but not both.

why don't you spend a day or two in york and the rest of the time walking in the dales?

i think this schedule sets you up for a week of moving all about and experiencing very little.

as for traffic, yes, it can be a nightmare. there is little ability to predict it but the bank holidays are the worst.

i agree with janis' advice.

if i were to go to visit wales from london in only two days (which i would not), i certainly would not try to visit cardiff and conwy in those two days! frankly this is mad.

with respect to m2k, you have no time for scenic routes. i guess one school of thought is that you can choose scenic routes and see a lot of england from behind the wheel. unfortunately, this is not a good way to see the country.

the whole thing may not be a disaster but i fail to see what you will get out of this whirlwind tour. the only thing going for you is that the days are extremely long and you can expect daylight until well after 9pm.

Hi,
I didn't see walkinaround's post until after I got back.

I had decided back in April to drop Wales and just do London and Yorkshire, with one day trip by train to Edinburgh. My trip was May 29-June 7.

We ran into a roadworks project out in the middle of the country and it took an hour and a half to go 3 miles. I kid you not! I couldn't believe it. And, on the way back, on the other side of the road there was some accident and it was an unbelievable mess. The traffic was backed up for miles and miles. I don't know how resuce crews get to accident scenes like this. It was awful and I pitied the souls who were going to be stuck for hours.

I appreciate the advice I received from everyone as I planned my trip. The trip was great fun and I plan to do a trip report.
