repost this with the topic heading of Provence itinerary or something like that and you should get responses. I loved Avignon and Les Baux but unfortunately had to rely on public transportation. If you can, rent a car.

r-get going on the ticket because with Easter and spring break, you may run into a problem. If you are flying from New York-Delta has a nonstop to Nice or you can do the Air France thing to Paris with connections to Marseilles. The real Provence is out of Marseilles so either rent a car or do the train/bus thing which is actually inexpensive and convenient BUT you work around their schedules so there is no lingering on places you would prefer more time.I would decide if you want the Luberon area of Provence(where Peter Mayle wrote about or the more touristy areas-Grasse,etc.In six days, don't spend all of your time trying to jam every small village in.Enjoy the area and linger with another glass of wine, etc. Debbie

In my research I have found that Marseille is the least expensive airport to fly into if you are going to Provence (at least from Boston it is...about the same price as flying to Paris). I would suggest renting a car at the airport in Marseille. As for that ticket, try Alitalia, they have flights that connect through Milan. Also, don't forget to try Priceline. good luck and have fun!

Check out www.raileurope.com. I believe the trip from Nice to Avignon is less expensive than Paris to Avignon. But is your flight to Avignon from NY less expensive than just flying into Paris?

r - - there is no "provence" board - - what adina meant was, when you post(ed) this message, many people would stop and read it (and respond) if you use(d) the subject header "I want advice with my itnerary to fly into Marseilles and see Provence" - - then the meaningless header "? re; trip". Chances are, a vast majority of people visiting this forum are not stopping to read your message at all. Subject headers are how people decide to read something.

Hello!
I would highly recommend planning a day trip to Aix-en-Provence. This is a beautiful university city that is absolutely perfect for sipping coffee or wine and watching the world go by. Check out the gorgeous, tree-lined "Cours Mirabeau". This is a beautiful boulevard with many cafes, wonderful for hanging out on a sunny afternoon! Also, Aix is famous for its abundance of fountains, so be sure to look for them, you can't miss them!
Have a wonderful trip, Provence is fabulous.
