re: life jackets in Venice

I hesitate to bring this topic up again, but after reading all the responses to the question regarding life jackets, for some crazy reason I feel compelled to note that I also saw the article regarding a traghetto that turned over in Venice last fall. The article caught my eye as we had just returned from our first (definitely not the last) trip to Venice. Our local newspaper is quite small, but the editor apparently thought the topic interesting as a small filler article.
I've received much information from this board and greatly appreciate all the travel experience shared here. I feel a little foolish that this is my first post and that it is on such an unusual topic but for what it is worth, I just had to reply. Thanks for being here!

One thing I learned about standing in a traghetto is that it is not a good idea to try to take a photo while riding across. You can get a little wobbly while looking through a viewfinder.

I'm only surprised that San Toma ferry doesn't capsize more often!

Most people seem to stand - so it only takes one to lose their balance ...
