Ravenna
We will be in Bologna for Christmas and then have 2 nights until we are due in Venice. Does anyone have any must see places between Bologna and Venice? We will have already been in Florance for the past 4 days before Bologna. Any help will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Well, you just posted your must-see destination from Bologna-RAVENNA-one of the most important sites for Byzantine architecture in the world-8 UNESCO heritage sites, AND connected to the seaside:
Basilica of Sant'
Appolinare-bell tower dates to the 11th century
Chiesa San Vitale-perhaps the most important of the UNESCO sites-survives virtually intact from the time of Emperor Justinian-the mosaics, from the 5th century, are marvelous
Many more ancient sites-and it has nice people watching piazzas as well with luxe shopping-Piazza del Populo, for one.

Hello KDP, I love Ravenna and always have enjoyed staying there. GST gave you a few ideas of why it is so special and if you go to Google you will find a wealth of information regarding the history and the mosaics of Ravenna.
You should probably expect rain in that region (Bologna, Ravenna) so do pack accordingly and bring an umbrella or buy one from one of the street vendors when you are in Florence. Have a wonderful trip!
