Rainy day forecast for Normandy tour

I just read it's supposed to rain next Thursday which is the day I am scheduled to take a day tour of Normandy. Has anyone out there ever taken the D Day Normandy beaches tour in the rain? Any tips about what kind of footwear and raingear to wear? Thanks.

It was cool/cold, windy, and rainy (off and on) when we took an all day tour in May. I wore a 3/4 length raincoat with a hood and had an umbrella. It was not "pouring", so the hood was essentially all I needed. The wind made the umbrella difficult anyway.

I had sand in my Easy Spirit shoes after the beach visit, as did everyone else; just dumped it out and went on. My shoes were not soaked, but I did have another pair of walking shoes with me (at hotel, not actually on the tour), and I would recommend that for this very reason. I don't know where you're from, but I've never experienced the all day downpours over in Europe that we get occasionally here in Pgh. I'm sure it does happen, though.

Enjoy your visit, and don't let the forecast concern you!

More than a few enjoyed the rain on June 6, 1944

Our guide mentioned that the weather we experienced was much like that on June 6, 1944. And there the comparison ends.

I've experienced it under the most beautiful skies and the heaviest with rain (not a downpour mind you). I have to admit, the poorer weather certainly made one appreciate the circumstances/sacrifices of the men more. I assure you it will be moving either way, just go prepared for cold, wet and wind and maybe providence will shine (literally) on you.

It was sleeting and windy the day we did the D-day tours...really a pretty miserable March day, but I wouldn't have missed it for any reason.

I camped in normandy last spring and it rained for two nights and during the day on and off. Wear waterproof footwear. Most of the sites have paths, don't worry about getting too muddy. Wear pants that can then be either washed or have been worn enough on your trip. Do not skip the tour becauseof the weather!!!
