We are planning a 3 week trip in September to Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland. We have always rented cars and driven everywhere, but it seems a little pricey this time so we are considering the train. A 3-country 1 month pass (5 days of travel)is $244 for 1st class. But I can't seem to find answers to the following: can you use this pass for a night train, is there extra cost involved, is this a good way to go - is it worth it? When I sent an inquiry to them, they just said there would be an extra charge for the reservation. But I don't know how much or what that really means. The big drawback is giving up the travel to all the little out-of-the-way places, which we love. Any advice? Thanks

There is an extra fee for sleeping accomodations when you have a rail pass.

Beofre buying any passes, enter you itinerary at www.railsaver.com and click "only if it saves money".

Please do take the advice above about checking out whether this pass will actually save you money. I don't know how much prices have risen recently in those countries, but the rail tickets in those countries just a few years ago were very cheap. (Berths or couchettes on night trains are extra.)

Thank you. I did check it out and it will be a little cheaper to buy-as-we-go. Do you know how much extra it is to purchase the sleeping accomodations? I can't seem to find that info anywhere.
