Rail options - munich-salzburg-budapest-brno-C Krumlov - prague
Hello,
I was hoping for some advice.
My wife and I are going to Oktoberfest this sept, staying in Germany 4 days, planning on seeing salzburg a day with a night train to budapest for 3 maybe 4 days.
From there we plan on spending a few hours in Brno on our way to Cesky Krumlov for a couple of nights, then to Prague for 4 nights to end the trip.
I had some questions on railpasses...
I Looked over the websites and it seems that a Germany Pass for 4 days, a ticket from Salzburg to Budapest, a Hungary Pass, and a Czech Pass would be the best bet price wise.
Is there any problems with me buying passes this way? or is it better to spend the extra $200 or so and get the Selectpass for Ger, Aus, and Hungary along with a pass for the Czech porion of our trip?

I suggest two resources: Budget Europe Travel and Euraide.com. Both have 800 numbers, so you can speak with someone who understands all the ins-and-outs of passes vs. point-to-point tickets. Each service will buy the tickets for you, at face value, plus a small S&H fee. You can have the paper tickets mailed to your address. Euraide has its main office at the Munich train depot. I have used both services and liked having the tickets in hand before we left home.

You may as well consider the East European pass - good in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland - 5 days of travel in one month period $230 1st class, $162 2nd class.
In 1st cl Salz-Budapest is about $120; Buda-Prague about $90 so may be on interest. 2nd class: Salz-Buda$80, Buda-Prague $60. Plus you would have three other days on unlimited travel in those countries. Buda-C Krumlov would be more than Buda-Prague probably and then you have C Krumlov-Prague. Ask BETS (800-441-2387) about the pass if you have any questions. The German pass can be a steal if traveling much in Germany and takes you to Salzburg. But if just in Bavaria investigate the Bavarian pass sold at stations (but can't be used on the best fastest trains) but is bargain priced. Of course the Eurail Select at $316 pp for five days in 2 months, also comes in 6, 8 and 10 days, could also play in if you going first class.
