Rail Europe is a ripoff! They charged me 25 per cent more for the night train from Lisbon to Madrid, and stated that they did not offer senior rates for this trip. Well, they may not have offered senior rates, but the train line does indeed offer senior rates.
I'm out $100 on this trip!
The Renfe site in English is very easy to navigate - much cheaper prices.

I am not sure why you would want to resurrect a France thread that is over 3 years old just to expound upon RE for a trip which does not take place anywhere within the country.
The SNCF (French Rail) does indeed offer senior rates but these rates are only available to seniors who purchase annual discount cards at a price of 57€.
