R/T day rail trips from Florence, IT

Wondering if a trip to the Adriatic for an afternoon is good idea, where to go such as Rimini or Cesenatico, how much time it would take and/or should we plan an overnite. Florence is our base with terminal down the street. Is Bologna also worthwhile for a day? How much time to get to such places? Any other destinations suggested for day rail travel? We understand rail travel is not expensive in Italy and seek making the most of our time as we are based in Florence. RSVP.

It will take 2.5-3 hours each way by train to Rimini or Cesenatico. The train goes via Bologna.

Bologna is possible (only one hour away by fastest train), but I think it has more to offer than is covered by a day trip.

Usual daytrips by rail mentioned here: Lucca, Pisa, Siena (although the bus is better), Arezzo, Orvieto

Hi Jor,
