Quickie Venice Tour

Hi all,
My new husband and I will be passing through venice April 12 arriving early morning and leaving mid afternoon April 13. I know we won't see everything but could anyone name just a few must-see highlights. We are leaving for europe in a few days. I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Chrissie

aside from the overwhelming experience of piazza san marco (the most beautiful space in the world) my advice is to simply get lost in the maze of this most unique city. oh, also take vaporetto #1 up and down the grand canal. ciao.

St Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace, vaporetto ride thru the Grand Canal, Murano, Burano. Wander the back streets away from St Mark's; a dozen churches throughout the city with priceless art.

Hi Chrisssie
If you do a search on this forum you can find an excellent suggested-one-day whirlwind tour for a daytrip to Venice that was once posted by Paulo who is one of the Italy experts on this forum.
If you can't find it under "venice" look for it under "paulo". If you can't find it, email me because I copied it (with due credit) into my Venice file.
Go to the library or to a bookstore and borrow/buy a guidebook for Venice so that you can do a little reading and
determine what most interests you.
Buy a map (Streetwise Venice is good) so that you will minimize your getting lost time, but by all means take the advice to just wander around and take at least one vaporetto ride.

Have dinner at Al Covo restaurant and take a gondola ride at night for just the two of you if it's not too chilly--it's really very romantic.
