My wife and I are taking a quick trip later this month into early March ( 4 nights) to Rome.
While we want to see the "sights' in Rome, we are also interested in either a couple of day trips or an overnight in Umbria or Tuscany region. Spoletto up to Gubbio for night and then up and around through Tuscan region before home to Rome late next day?

Can anyone help with a suggested itenerary?

A couple of days within the four days in Rome? What is your total time on the ground? I am not a mind reader. A little info, please !!!

We arrive Rome Sun am and leave Thurs am to states

So 3 and 3/4 days. I would not go on two day trips if your intention is to see Rome.

Have you been to Rome or Italy before? With that little time I would stick to Rome! There is a thread going now about a 4.5 day itinerary that might give you an idea of what you can see in 4 days in Rome.

Friends went to Firenze while on a 5 day trip to Rome to visit a niece on a junior year abroad. They had a great time but misread the timetable and wound up missing their having to spend the night.

Other than that, they had a good time.
