Quick train question
Hello very helpful traveler friends!
I would be grateful for your advice on train tickets
for next month, our first trip to Europe.
We will be in Munich from
Thursday night, November 22nd
and then traveling to Salzburg on November 25th for the day.
From there, my husband and I will go back to Munich for the night,
and my son, daughter in law, and their three kids (5,3,1)
will leave Salzburg to go back to Vienna where they live.
They're relatively new to the area, so they haven't had time to figure out much
about the train systems apart from Vienna.
So my question is what would the best options be for us for tickets?
Would the Bayern Ticket work for our Munich time? We will be traveling mainly
around the city, with the furthest point being Dachau. Then on to Salzburg.
Thank you so much for your help!
Tammy

The Bayern Ticket will work easily for your day trip to Salzburg.
You will need one for 4 people - the kids don't count and travel for free as long as they are under 6 years.
Since you will be traveling on a Sunday, you can start the trip as early as you like and you won't be restricted by the 9am clause which is in effect only on work days.
Keep in mind that the Bayern Ticket also includes local transport in Munich by metro, tram, bus etc.
So you do not need to buy extra tickets for going to and from the train station.
For travels only within Munich and surroundings, the Bayern Ticket would be overkill.
The local transit authority MVV offers day passes for the city as well as for the region.

Dachau is covered by the Munich XXL day pass.
When you stay in Munich proper, the day pass for the "inner district" is sufficient.
When your "kids" and their kids need to go from Salzburg to Vienna, they should check out
https://westbahn.at/en/
A bit slower than the fast RailJets of Austrian Rail (ÖBB) but much more cheaper with regard to flexibility and when you cannot commit on a certain train to travel further on to Vienna.
The standard flexible fare is just 28.90 and kids under 6 also travel for free.
