Good for you, PJ! I'm planning a one-week trip to London myself. I've basically taken the 3-day itinerary suggested by Fodors and stretched it out over 5 days. I'm also booking a tour through Stonehenge tours, taking a day trip to York, and catching a play at the New Globe Theatre. What do you like?

pj, your best bet at this point is to read through all the recent posts on the England board; most of them are about London or London-based day trips. That will give you an idea of what's popular. Then check out the web sites of the places that sound interesting. Don't try to do too much, especially the first day.

Ooh, take me with!

I'd definitely go see the Tower of London-go see the crown jewels and then do the highly entertaining beefeater tour that starts at the entrance every 1/2 hour I believe.

If you're there on the weekend, maybe a visit to one of the flea markets, Portobello or Camden or Bermondsey.

In the evening, get tickets to a 1/2 price preformance at the Leicester square ticket booth (make sure it's the official booth). Or maybe a Jack the Ripper walk with London Original Walks which leaves at 7:30 pm from the Tower Hill Underground station.

With all there is to see in London, you may not want to take any trips outside the city but if you do I'd recommend Windsor or Hampton Court, both about 1/2 hour by train from London. Hampton Court is nicer in the summer months when you can hang around the gardens but it's still an interesting visit in the colder months.

There are bunches of museums, if you're into antiquities try the British Museum, the history of London try the Museum of London, for art try the National Gallery.
