Questions about Costa del Sol, Spain
We are just beginning to consider a visit to Andalusia in October, with about 6 nights to stay.
We prefer to be on the coast. We prefer train travel for day-trips, to see horses and inland scenery/sites. But we will rent a car, if that makes more sense.
Is there a good spot to stay all 6 nights, or to split it 3 & 3? We'd probably like to visit Seville.

The trains along the CDS only go as far as the outskirts of Fuengirola, no further west and if you want to take a train to Seville you'll have to go from Malaga.
It probably makes sense therefore to stay in Malaga, with good restaurants and hotels and access to some nice beaches. You can catch the train to Granada too, for the Alhambra.
Having said that, a car is very useful to get to those places that the train doesn't go to (and there's lots) so perhaps a mixture of trains to Granada and Seville and when you've done those, hire the car (or vice versa).

And wonderful Córdoba is just 50 mins from Málaga, once the most important city in Europe, with the high speed AVE train. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyfGdpF55Uk&t=10s

So, staying at Malaga 4 nights with day-trips as wanted, to Seville, Córdoba? Even Tangiers?
But going to Jerez-de-la-Frontera to see the Andalusian horse school, is better visited from Seville? So two nights there?
I'll look at air travel, to see if it makes sense to fly in/out of Malaga/Seville.
Other comments? I have really no idea of this part of the globe. Also, we are open to consider other destinations than Andalusia. Just don't want cold weather. Or long flights.

Fine with day-trips from Málaga to both Córdoba (50 mins) and Granada (90 mins), but Sevilla is close to two hours away. Jerez is easily visited as a day-trip from Sevilla.
<no idea of this part of the globe> <don't want cold weather>
Andalucía has got the best climate in Europe, especially if you want high temperatures in October. Weather statistics for mid October in Málaga says average highs at 80F and 7 hours sun/day. http://www.wetteronline.de/klima-temperatur/malaga
Andalucía is thousands of years of Phoenician, Roman, Jewish, Christian, Moslem and Gitano history and culture on every street corner, history and modernity hand in hand and an adventure for a lifetime: http://andalucia.com/
Andalucía is both some of the oldest cities in Europe, fabulous beaches, small villages, beautiful and very diverse landscapes and excellent food: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jpFSouB4Yk
