This is what the handbook from my daughter's school in Perugia has to say about meds:
"Keep in mind that drugs approved in the U.S. may be banned in other countries. The Italian government considers certain drugs illegal (including Ritalin, Cylert, Adderall, Wellbutrin, Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft). Anyone found with these medications without appropriate physician approval can be prosecuted. Contact the Italian Consulate in your jurisdiction for additional information.
Any prescription medication that you carry with you to Italy must be accompanied by your physician's written description of the medical problem, the dose of the medication and the generic name(s). Prescription medications must remain in their original containers."

I asked my Walgreens pharmacy to give me small bottles, labeled, to transfer some of my (nintey-day supply)pills into and they refused. Everything is computerized, and they can't print another label if it is not time for a refill.
I had the doc give me extra prescriptions instead,to accompany my un-labeled pills. Fortunately, my insurance company (Humana Medicare) recently sent a list of all my prescription meds, including what they look like. (that doesn't cover the vitamins and supplements, of course).
Finally, I just discovered a packet of 50 tiny zip locks with a write-on area that are made for divvying up pills. For a trip longer than a week, they are better than the pill organizer, I think. I put each days pills in a separate bag, and extra pills in bags by type of pill. Hooray.
