Question about Superfast Ferry / Eurail pass
I understand that Superfast Ferry fare is included in the Greece/Italy rail pass. But I don't understand what the choices are for beds or seats. It looks like you need to stay in a sex-segregated dorm if you choose that accommodation . . . ? If you choose airline seats, do you get a seat assignment? My daughter and son will be traveling together and want to economize, but don't want to be separated.

If the ferry has a 2-bed cabin and they want to pay for it they can travel together. But if there are only beds in a 4-bed cabin the only way they can book a bed is by sharing the cabin with others of the same sex, sort of dorm-style, unless they pay for the whole cabin.
Yes, airline seats are assigned seats and they can travel together if they choose this option.

My Eurail Travelers Guide 2009 reports for Superfast Ferries
- free air seats/dormitories for 1st class pass holders. free deck passage for 2nd class pass holders. Then there are seasonal surcharges.
I've done both. On deck it is grab what lounger you can and enjoy the night wind. Bring a blanket. I would suggest that they separate to enjoy a night of sleep in a dorm. That is far better than sleeping on deck. They can keep their luggage with them in the dorm rather than leave it with all the backpacks in a common area.

I have a follow-on question: I'd like to take the ferry from either Ancona or Bari to Patras on a Eurail pass. I don't want to pay for two days of travel since the ferry goes overnight. Can someone clarify the hours/rules for the Superfast ferries so I know how I'll be charged on my Eurail pass? Thanks!

I, of course, stayed in a First Class outside cabin with private bath when I took the SuperFast from Bari to Patra.
There are common areas on the SuperFast. Your son and daughter could sleep anywhere, really. Many people stay up and watch TV or have cocktails in these sitting areas. Some people sleep in deck chairs on the deck.
There is a first-class restaurant on board, also a cafeteria, disco, bar, small swimming pool, etc.
I don't understand the Euro Rail Pass question. What do you mean by "charged"? The last time I used a rail pass, I payed one fee and got a first-class pass that was good for two weeks of travel.
