Question About Rx in Europe

"...Xanax does not render you "out of it"."
I have no personal experience either but suspect, like many drugs, it would effect different people differently...as I was told ad nauseam here a while back when I suggested one with which I do have experience.

That's kind of what I thought last time but decided it made sense. Body chemistry, etc. Personal experience or no personal experience...
What are the possible side effects of alprazolam (Xanax)?
depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, unusual risk-taking behavior, decreased inhibitions, no fear of danger; confusion, hyperactivity, agitation, hostility, hallucinations; feeling like you might pass out; urinating less than usual or not at all; chest pain, pounding heartbeats.
And I love this part...
"Less serious side effects may include: drowsiness, dizziness, feeling tired or irritable; muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination, slurred speech;

Kind of sounds like "out of it" to me.

H-e-l-l-o? "POSSIBLE side effects"
Possible means possible, and *obviously* any reaction depends how much you take.
I have never once had any of those happen to me.
Not to mention if you read that list again most all of those could be symptoms that you had too much alcohol to drink.

Well I do have a friend who attemtped suicide when given Xanax during a burnout.
Seems it lowers your 'defence' in order to 'deetach' you from the situation but sometimes it works too well.
So yes it depends... some people cannot control themselves under influence of alcohol either. It depends on the person or on the quantity taken.
But I'm so glad Fordors has turned into a medical forum. I will be able to post about my problems of erection, once I have told you about the state of my prostate.
Can't wait...

I always carry a few Xanax when I fly. Just having them on hand can be calming and when I need to take one, I do. It doesn't render me 'out of it' or make me unconscious or unable to deal with an emergency, should one arise. You'd really have to have taken a Xanax to understand its effect. It just calms you and brings you more or less back to normal.
I don't have fear of flying. What I do have is a fear of small places, especially when there's no way to get outside or even open a window or a door. Just writing about this is making my stomach clench a bit. If I'm in an especially small plane, one with a narrow aisle or low ceiling, or if I'm in a plane that's stuck on the tarmac for hours (as I was in London -- 6 hours!), anxiety can strike and once it does, it just doesn't go away on its own.
As far as not being able to deal with an emergency situation, I'd much rather depend on someone who'd taken a Xanax to deal with their anxiety than someone who's had a few drinks.
I'm very sorry the OP has left the building. People say the lounge is rough but the travel threads can often make the lounge look like heaven.

Goddesstogo, some time back the topic was sleeping on a long-haul flight. I recommended taking a Valium/diazepam as that's what I do and it doesn't render me "out of it". I can wake and be on my feet in a second. And I said so. Others pointed out to me, and I accept that it's sometimes true, that my experience is not everyone's. The same could be said of your post and what we were discussing here earlier.
Sometimes one's own experience doesn't apply. If pointing that out is "rough", what's the point of ever having a discussion about anything, if countering another's point of view is considered unacceptable. I experienced that here and didn't perceive it as rough. I just figured I'd learned something.

It's true my experience may not be the same as the OP's but as that's the medication she's been prescribed by her MD and the one that seems to work for her, I see no reason to believe that it affects her in any extreme way.
If we all were anxious about the long lists of any possible side effects of meds many of us are probably successfully taking, I doubt that any of us would be taking anything for fear of 'oily stool leakage'.
If the OP is still reading this, I suggest (as others have above) that you speak to your doctor about obtaining a longer term prescription. Surely people who may be working for a length of time in an other country can get a prescription that covers that specific time. Also, I like the idea of taking half a pill but I wouldn't do that without discussing it with your doctor first. Dosages are important.

I also meant to say that the OP was only talking about her experience with the med, not yours, mine or anyone else's. Her experience certainly would apply to her.

Which means our experience is zilch to her and we are not in a medical forum and the only intelligent advice was to go and see a doctor. Advice given as nauseam to a poster who bites's everybody not saying what she wants to hear.
What about another medical question : with my erection trouble I always travel with vuagra pulls. Unfortunately it is my wife who keeps the tabs and I need to recomplete the stick i(great spelling error) n case I meet someone of interest extra-marital. Does anybody have an idea how I can get vuagra pills when I travel ?
Preferably not in a pharmacy as it would make my wife suspicious ?
I am sure this question is travel related and of great importance to so many of us males !
