I plan on using a debit card without a chip while in Spain and Portugal. I have never had any problems doing so in other European countries and wondering if it will be the same in Spain and Portugal.
Thanks

Thank you. I know that train ticket machines may very well require a card with a chip but it is good to know that banks don't.

A chipless debit card might work in the ticket machines. It did for me in the Netherlands.

I've never had any problems in Spain and I've been there several times in the last few years, most recently last October. Of course I don't try to use ticket machines, just ATMs.

One thing to note about ATMs in Portugal is the amount you can withdraw at one time. I believe the limit on the MB (Multibanco) ATMs is set at a maximum of 200€.
