Q's on Flying American Transatlantic
I've a few questions about the way American is treating their customers lately:
1. Is it true that beer/wine are no longer free?
2. Do they still hand out free headsets or do you have bring the ones that they change $2 for on domestic flights.
3. How badly have they cut back on food service? Do you need to bring your own for backup?

Haven't flown AA lately but I bet the answers are (if you are flying in "economy"
1. True
2. Possibly but bring the others just in case
3. As much as tghey think they can get away with; it wouldn't be a bad idea.
Let's see if I am correct or not.

I have flown AA to Europe a few times in the last couple of years and they do charge $5 for beer/wine, they do not charge for headsets, and the "meals" should be considered snacks. I always bring food on the plane or have a good meal before boarding.

I don't know about the very small number of "daytime" transatlantic departures they offer (the flights that arrive the same day) - - but for all the rest of the (overnight) flights, they provide all the food you "need". It will be a dinner and a light breakfast.
On the day you depart, put your self on European time, from the minute you get up (ideally, not much later than 4 am, if you live in the Eastern time zone). Thinking this way, your flight probably leaves between 9 pm and midnight (Europe time), nd arrives between 6 and 9 am. How much food does your body "need", during those normal sleep hours, anyway?
Best wishes,
Rex

I just flew AA in February (Chicago-London).
1. Yes. $5 per drink (alcoholic drinks only).
2. I got free headset.
3. Like previous posters have advised, on the redeye flight I eat at the airport so I can take my Ambien and sleep for the entire flight. Breakfast is adequate.
On the return flight (daytime) I had plenty to eat. Some sort of entree, veg, roll and then pizza for a snack later on.

I flew the Chicago to London redeye on the 1st and returned Manchester to Chicago on the 11th.
Alcohol in coach has not been in over a year.
The headests were free.
Meals were adequate for the period of the flight, but less than most people would have for dinner. I had chicken going and salmon coming back. The salmon was pretty good, can't say as much for the chicken.
The breakfest before landing on the redeye and the snack before landing on the resturn were better food than the "meal." Coming back there was grapes, Walkers Shortbread cookie and a decent small deep dish pizza.
