There are lot's of loo's in London.
Any large department store (apart from Harrods) have public loo's for free.
Whilst I did not think about it..I never had a problem finding one. All the places of interest have loo's.
Harrods loo's cost 1 pound to "spend a penny"...

The free musuems are good resources for potties - The British Library, The British Musuem, The National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, the Tate and Tate Modern.

You can pop into a Marks and Spencers if you see one nearby, otherwise, use McDonalds or Burger King. I've relied on McDs even in NYC.

I was just in England staying with friends. After 12 days there I've come to the conclusion that the English don't function the way other human beings do, i.e. they don't need toilets. For some reason everytime I needed a loo, my friends were very reluctant to stop or have me ask if I could use the loo. The times I did ask, the answer was always a resounding, "No." I've decided that the next time I got to England, I won't eat or drink.

Bit surprised to hear that Kiera.

Also remember that large train stations have loos (tho it might cost you 20p), there are coin operated public toilets in the streets in central London, and don't forget the pubs. They're not called "public house" for no reason. Some pubs have started putting up signs stating that facilities are only for use by patrons, but frankly, I always ignore this. I defy anyone to even notice in a crowded pub if you're just sneaking to the loo.
I have to admit that I wasn't in London. My son and I stayed in Wiltshire. One evening we went to the library in Marlborough with my son's friend to do some research on the local history. After we'd been there a while I asked if I could use the loo, and the librarian said, "No, there's a public one down the street and down an alley." It was night time and raining!

Hey Steve,
I used that loo acroos the street from Westminster Abbey more than once and must say it was more than deserving of its "loo of the year award" We never had problems finding facilaties in London, and we had our 6 year old Dd in tow. Michelle
