Provence (Luberon or Cote D'Azur) v. Italy (Tuscan or Puglian Coast)

A question for fodorites:

We have traveled to both Italy (coastal and inland - Tuscany/Umbria) and France (Provence - Luberon valley) previously.
However, we have only been to Italy with our ds (now 19 mos) -- and found the italian people and culture very welcoming of children (including at dinner, meals, etc).

What is the general sentiment in France towards young children at meals (Provence - Luberon or Cote D'Azur, more specifically)? I am planning a trip for June 29-July 12 2008 to Europe, for my family (with 2 dcs -- 1 will be an infant the other 2.5) and would love some insight -- i think there is a general believe that italy is more child-friendly? We had thought we would rent a villa in Gordes, Bonnieux, etc in France, but are now rethinking and looking into Italy.

Would love experience from anyone who has been there done that (i.e., been to both countries with young dcs, etc).

Thanks.

The French are also very tolerant of children. Children often eat out with their parents, it is not unusual to see family groups out at lunch time. The French children also seem to be very well behaved and do not run riot as so often happens in the UK.
